HVAC info

Temperature setting

In the hallway you will find a thermostat.  Please note that temperature limits for heating and cooling have been set and locked.  Do not attempt to override these settings.

Is the fan coming on every once in a while for no reason?

When you arrive the fan might be set to “circulate” which just runs the fan a few minutes every hour even if heat or A/C isn’t on.  This helps keep the air fresh and filtered.  Feel free to switch the fan to “auto” or “on” if you prefer.   If that doesn't work just text us and we can shut off the circulation mode remotely.

Is the dehumidifier coming on every once in a while for no reason?

In the hallway we have a dehumidifier that takes moisture out of the air when the inside humidity gets too high.  In the summer time the A/C does that job.  But in cooler months when the A/C doesn't run the dehumidifier can help keep the condo more comfortable.  There are no accessible controls or on/off switch.  If the noise is bothering you just text us and we can shut it off remotely.

Please do NOT run the A/C with doors open!

Please do NOT leave doors open when the A/C is on.  To do so is not only wasteful, but also leads to significant damage in the condo.  When you run the A/C everything in the condo is at a lower temperature than the outside air.  If warm, humid outside air enters the condo, moisture from that air will condense on any metal surface.  It’s just like how a cold glass of water “sweats” when you take it outside on a humid day.  The condensation may not be visible but it is there.  Moisture from the salt air attacks any metal surface and quickly corrodes it, even stainless steel.  The condensation can even set off the fire alarm in the entire building!  So please, if you enjoy having the doors or windows open then by all means do so, but please, please do not run the A/C.  And obviously, please do NOT run the fireplace if the A/C is on!
